GBM #1: Maling Pinoy

This meeting, we toured the three main regions of the Philippines: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. At our first stop, we played a game of Bahay, Bata, Bagyo, representing the many bagyos (storms), bahays (houses), and batas (babies) that impact the region. If you were a “bahay,” you and a partner had to put your arms around another person, the “bata.” If your role was called, you would have to find a new group and not be the last, or else you were out. If we called “bagyo,” you had to switch roles and form a completely new group. Then, we moved down to Visayas where we played Isda a Fish, because they are known for their fishing industry. As they do in Visayas, we fished with donuts tied to a bamboo pole! You had to try and eat a donut hanging from the stick without using your hands. Finally, we ended with some rounds of Bagsak Laruan, to represent Mindanao’s history during the Spanish-Moro conflict, where the spaniards and moro people fought each other by throwing stuffed animals at each other. The aim of the game was to try and collect a pile of plushies in the middle of the room while someone tries to throw another one at you. We hope you enjoyed our history lesson, (but please take everything with a grain of salt!)
